brainwavez.org: Privacy Policy

Introduction
This web site does not intentionally collect any personal information about visitors to the site. The web server does automatically generate log files based on what happens on the site - what pages are accessed, what web browser you are using, where you came from to get to brainwavez.org, and so on - however, all web sites do this.

Cookies
This site does not use cookies but please read the notes about affiliates and third-party services below.

Affiliates
This site is signed up to a number of affiliate programs in a vague attempt to generate a little bit of income. These affiliates use cookies to track your click from brainwavez.org to the affiliates' web sites so that they know what site to credit with the sale.
  • brainwavez.org does not have access to the content of these cookies.
  • brainwavez.org does not have access to your account, your username, or your password that you may use at any of the affiliates' web sites.
  • Depending on the report-generating capabilities of the affiliate program, brainwavez.org may have access to what has been purchased through the site, but that data does not contain any of your personally identifiable information. (We will know that an Aliens DVD was bought at Amazon.com, but we won't know that you bought it.)
Please view the privacy policies on the affiliate web sites for more information regarding what data they may collect or email their customer-service departments if you have any queries. brainwavez.org is not responsible for the policies or actions of third-party web sites.

The Google/DoubleClick DART Cookie
Google, which displays affiliate advertising on brainwavez.org, uses services provided by DoubleClick, including the DoubleClick DART cookie, which becomes installed on your computer when certain ads are displayed in your browser and then tracks where you go and what type of sites you visit so that more relevant ads will be displayed on affiliate sites in future. If you do not like having your interests logged by Google please utilise a cookie blocker to block the DoubleClick DART cookie or use Google's services to opt out of the cookie. Please also take note of the points from Google below for more information:
  • Google, as a third party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on this site.
  • Google's use of the DART cookie enables it to serve ads to brainwavez.org's visitors based on their visit to the brainwavez.org site and other sites on the Internet.
  • You may opt out of the use of the DART cookie by visiting the Google ad and content network privacy policy.
Please note that brainwavez.org does not have access to the contents of this cookie and, beyond what has been explained in the introduction above, does not know where you have been browsing on the Internet.

Third-Party Services
brainwavez.org utilises a number of third-party services to add more functionality to the site. These include the Digg button, the Tweetmeme button, the Add To Any social-bookmarking widget, the HaloScan commenting system, the Disqus commenting system, and the JS-Kit article-rating system.

Some of these services may utilise cookies to track information and help you log into your accounts.
  • brainwavez.org does not have access to the content of these cookies.
  • brainwavez.org does not have access to your account or your password that you may use at any of the third-party-services' web sites.
  • Depending on the report-generating capabilities of the third-party web sites, brainwavez.org may have access to collated data, such as the number of retweets of an article, and some of your publically available personally identifiable information such as your username.

    • A Note About The Disqus Commenting System
    • If you post a comment on this site using the Disqus commenting system, brainwavez.org will be sent details of your comment, the username or alias you typed in, your email address, and your IP address. This is automated by the Disqus service and is partly a spam-prevention measure and partly to enable you to receive follow-up comments via email. Please note that this information will be kept confidential by brainwavez.org.

If you are concerned about giving out your email address (to any site that uses the Disqus commenting system or, in fact, any site that uses a commenting system that requires a login or that can send you notification emails) brainwavez.org advises you to sign up for a throwaway Gmail or Yahoo! Mail email account.
Flash Cookies
Certain third-party services and affiliate advertisers on this site may install Flash cookies (however, at this time, brainwavez.org doesn't know if any of the services it specifically uses does). These Flash cookies are different from normal cookies and cannot be deleted when you delete your other cookies manually. Additionally, certain services may surreptitiously reinstate normal cookies that you have deleted using a mechanism that is available to them via the separate Flash data.

Please read this Wired article for more information about Flash cookies and how you can control or investigate them.

Once again, brainwavez.org does not have access to any of this data. Please view the privacy policies on affiliate and third-party-services web sites for more information regarding what data they may collect or email their customer-service departments if you have any queries. brainwavez.org is not responsible for the policies or actions of third-party web sites.
