Festival: Open Book Comics Fest 2016, Cape TownThe 2016 Open Book Comics Fest is taking place over five days in September and will feature workshops, panel discussions, and a comic creators' and artists' market.

This year the events will be taking place at various venues in and around The District 6 Homecoming Centre (next to The Fugard Theatre), at The Fugard Annexe, and at the Cape Town Central Library. This has expanded from previous years so make sure you know where you are going. There is an exact description of where to find the rooms in the various venues here, and there are maps of the venues at the bottom of this post.

All the events are free but visitors will be required to pre register for the workshops and panel discussions on Webtickets to get an entry ticket, which will be checked at the door. The marketplace and marketplace demo events don't require tickets.

Wednesday

Shane Evans Masterclass
Join Shane Evans for a masterclass in story writing and illustration for aspiring authors and artists. Don't be shy - bring along any creative projects you are currently working on - Shane loves to grow ideas that are already percolating.

#sacomicstalk Twitter Event
brainwavez.org will be hosting a Twitter event with South African comics creators, in collaboration with Open Book Festival and Open Book Comics Fest. Join us as we showcase and discuss local comics for an hour.

Comics Fest Workshop: Autobiographical Comics
Illustrating Your Narrative: Join Roberto Millan for a two hour workshop focused on translating life into pictures. Please bring your own pencils, laptops, Wacom tablets and lightboxes.

Comics Fest Workshop: Life Journeys
Join Hippolyte (Réunion), Su Opperman (SA) and Kai Pfeiffer (Germany) for a masterclass exploring tools and techniques to capture life journeys on the page. Please bring materials and some photographs from your life (printed not digital).

Comics Fest Workshop: Sequential Storytelling

Open Book Comics Fest Marketplace: Saturday
This year the marketplace, which features South African comics creators, as well as stores hosted by Readers Den Comic Shop and Blank Books, has been expanded to multiple floors in the building. Make sure you go to the back of the ground floor and upstairs to find everyone.
