• Where: The Hive, Muizenberg Festival HQ, 37 Palmer Road, Muizenberg, Cape Town, South Africa
• What: The team behind the Free Beer comics anthology will be hosting a comic-jam half-day workshop in Muizenberg in Cape Town.

South AfricaArt Meetup: Open Art Sketch Meet, Cape Town
• When: Saturday, 25 February 2017, 11:00 to 14:00
• Where: The Drawing Room, 87 Station Road, Observatory, Cape Town, South Africa
• What: Open Art Cape Town is hosting one of its regular Sketch Meetups at The Drawing Room, a café and art gallery in Observatory. While it's not specifically a South African comics event it is organised by local comics creators and you can always find some of them in attendance.

South AfricaMarket: Kirstenbosch Craft And Food Market, Cape Town
• When: Sunday, 26 February 2017, 09:00 to 15:00
• Where: Next to the Kirstenbosch Stone Cottages, corner of Rhodes Drive and Kirstenbosch Drive, Newlands, Cape Town, South Africa
• What: Shameema Dharsey will be at the Kirstenbosch Craft & Food Market where she will be selling copies of her comics, The Cat Lady and its sequel ...And Life Goes On, as well as her colouring books.

South AfricaLaunch: The 2nd I Get Paid For This Zine, Cape Town
• When: Thursday, 2 March 2017, 18:00 to 23:00
• Where: Dapper Coffee Co., corner of Bree Street and Strand Street, Cape Town, South Africa
• What: Advertising agency 140 BBDO has been working on a zine project that is used to raise funds for its SEED library initiative, which aims to get kids in township schools reading. The fourth zine is being launched at Dapper Coffee Co. in the city centre.

South AfricaExhibition: Black Magic, A Solo Exhibition By Loyiso Mkize, Cape Town
• When: Opens Thursday, 2 March 2017, from 18:00
• Where: Eclectica Contemporary, 69 Burg Street, Cape Town, South Africa
• What: The exhibition Black Magic will be showcasing the fine-art work of Loyiso Mkize, the creator of the comic Kwezi, at Eclectica Contemporary in Cape Town. The show will be Mkize's fifth solo exhibition.

South AfricaFestival: Cape Town International Animation Festival
• When: Friday, 3 March 2017, 10:00 to 17:30; Saturday, 4 March 2017, 10:00 to late; Sunday, 5 March 2017, 10:00 to 16:00
• Where: The River Club, Liesbeek Parkway, Observatory, Cape Town, South Africa
• What: The annual Cape Town International Animation Festival (CTIAF) is once again running over three days and will feature a handful of South African comics creators on the programme and in the Artist Alley.

South AfricaCourse: The Art Of Comics Course 1: The Visual Language Of Graphic Narrative, Cape Town
• When: Tuesdays, 7 March 2017 to 25 April 2017, 17:30 to 20:30
• Where: College Of Cape Town City Campus, corner of Longmarket Street and Buitenkant Street, Cape Town, South Africa
• What: Andy Mason, a cartoonist and comic creator who works under the pen name N.D. Mazin and is particularly known for Blue Mamba, and Archie Birch, the creator of The Number 1 Game, along with Robyn Hosking, are presenting an eight-week course on the theory and practice of making comics.

South AfricaLaunch: Alles Het Niet Kom Wôd By Nathan Trantraal, Cape Town
• When: Thursday, 9 March 2017, 17:30 to 19:30
• Where: The Book Lounge, 71 Roeland Street, Cape Town, South Africa
• What: Nathan Trantraal, one of the creators of Coloureds and Crossroads, is also a gifted poet. He will be launching his latest collection at The Book Lounge and will be in conversation with Roché Kester (in Afrikaans).‏

• When: Thursday, 9 March 2017, 18:00 to 21:00 (opening night); Friday, 10 March 2017, to Thursday, 23 March 2017, 08:00 to 17:00 (weekdays), 09:00 to 15:00 (Saturdays)
• Where: The Drawing Room, 87 Station Road, Observatory, Cape Town, South Africa
• What: An exhibition featuring work by members of Open Art Cape Town will be opening at The Drawing Room. The evening will also include a drink-and-draw doodling event.

South AfricaLaunch: The Asmaul Husna Colouring Book Volume 2 By Shameema Dharsey, Cape Town
• When: Sunday, 12 March 2017, from 10:30
• Where: Al-Ikhlaas Academia Library, 2nd Floor, Islamia College, 409 Imam Haron Road (Lansdowne Road), Lansdowne, Cape Town, South Africa
• What: Shameema Dharsey, the creator of The Cat Lady and its sequel ... And Life Goes On, is launching the second volume of her adult-colouring-book project The Asmaul Husna Colouring Book, which features the many names of Allah.

• What: Jason Masters will be a guest at the book fair.

ZimbabweConvention: Comexposed Convention, Harare
• When: Saturday, 22 April 2017
• Where: Theatre In The Park, Harare, Zimbabwe
• What: The Zimbabwean comics community will be gathering in Harare at another Comexposed event to showcase their publications and spend a day celebrating comics.

South AfricaConvention: FanCon Cape Town Comic Con 2017
• When: Saturday, 29 April 2017 to Monday, 1 May 2017
• Where: Ballroom, and Gallery and Auditorium Foyer, of the CTICC (Cape Town International Convention Centre), Convention Square, 1 Lower Long Street, Foreshore, Cape Town, South Africa
• What: The second annual FanCon Cape Town Comic Con will be taking place at a bigger venue in the city in 2017 and will be taking place over three days instead of two. The first two international guests to be announced are Ron Marz and Matt Hawkins.

WorldwideFestival: Free Comic Book Day 2017
• When: Saturday, 6 May 2016
• What: During the annual Free Comic Book Day event comics fans can get free comics specially printed for the day from their local comics shop. In South Africa Readers Den Comic Shop in Cape Town will be celebrating the event with free comics and discounts at both its stores.
