The zombies (and cannibals) are coming! Rebuild: Gangs Of Deadsville will be out on Steam Early Access soon. Plus, get in the mood with the game's soundtrack, which has been released on Bandcamp.

Rebuild: Gangs Of Deadsville, the third in the series of developer Sarah Northway's zombie-survival/city-building games, will be released on Steam Early Access this Friday, 16 May 2014. Anyone who has already preordered the game (and uses Steam, obviously) will finally be able to take a look and see what the alpha testers have been playing with for the past few months.

The game features humans forming factions after a zombie apocalypse (including a cannibal faction) and your job is to manage the survivors - and the politics - to rebuild a functioning society.

Here's a teaser video showing alpha gameplay:

During the preorder phase the game is currently priced at US$10, which gets you cross-platform, DRM-free builds via Humble, as well as a Steam key. (An Android version is also in the works but it's at an earlier development stage.) Once the game launches on Steam Early Access on Friday the price will go up to US$15. Therefore, grab it now if you're interested and save yourself US$5.

You can preorder on the game's web site here.

Development Sneak Peeks
News: Rebuild: Gangs Of Deadsville

Besides announcing the launch, Sarah Northway posted some more information on what's been going on behind the scenes, as well as a teaser image (above) showing new mission icons, which includes a sneak peek at some missions that weren't originally planned for the game.

There have also been some teasers via Twitter. This screenshot above shows changes to the HUD (heads-up display).

Random Events
The alpha testers of the game, who hang out in the Rebuild forum, have continued to provide feedback that, Sarah Northway acknowledges, has been invaluable and which has made her rethink aspects of the game, as well as make tweaks. There is also a forum thread in which, at Northway's request, the testers have suggested random events that can occur in the game, as well as their outcomes, some of which have subsequently been incorporated into the game.

If you're interested in coding and game development the first post is especially fascinating as you get to see the format that Northway and her team use to plan the event scenarios. There's also a snippet of ActionScript code so you can see an if-else statement that picks between two outcomes: in one, a bitten survivor turns into a zombie and in the other the bite has no impact but the survivor loses happiness because he was quarantined by the rest of the survivors for the night.

Soundtrack News
Last week I was contacted by No Studio, half of the duo that composed the game's soundtrack, to say that it is now out on Bandcamp. This release includes two new bonus tracks that weren't yet available when the game's Kickstarter backers were first given access to the music.

The duo, Rupert Lally, an Englishman who is based in Switzerland, and Espen J Jörgensen (No Studio), who lives and works in Norway, have never met, yet they have collaborated on eight projects since 2012, including this one, which will be their last.

The duo describes the 22-track soundtrack as being a cross between "80s 'Vangelis' synth pieces and experimental electronica to industrial and synthrock". (I would also suggest that track 9, The Orange In The Grey, is very reminiscent of music by Lymbyc Systym.)

You can listen to (and buy) all the tracks using the widget below or visit the album's home on Bandcamp for more information.
