Salt Lake Roasting Company, Salt Lake City, Utah, USA: Cappuccino

Salt Lake Roasting Company is something of an institution in Salt Lake City, Utah, in the US. As one of the only coffee shops that roasts its beans on the premises, it dominates the market for the freshest coffee. The owner also offers classes, in conjunction with the
University of Utah, on roasting coffee, and the myriad complexities of brewing a great cup of coffee.
The interior of the roasting company is certainly not my favourite in terms of décor and comfortable places to sit, but it is spacious. Few tables are available on the main floor, but there is an upstairs section, with an ostensibly odd world map that serves as the décor. The views from the second floor overlook downtown Salt Lake City, and the small, but walled-in, patio offers a few places to sit, comfortably away from the traffic of 400 South.

The baristas are friendly and knowledgeable about the coffee roasting process, and for the most part take their jobs seriously. My cappuccino was served with two sugars but they seemed to have forgotten the spoon. I also ordered a fruit tart, which was rather disappointing. Though it was tasty, it was not a tart in the classical sense. It was an almond cake with a crust, masquerading as a tart with raspberries, blackberries, strawberries and kiwi fruit arranged in an ornate design and covered in an apricot glaze. The slice was incredibly large, but the dessert was nothing but ordinary in taste, and not recommended.
