Fotoshop By Adobé
A brainwavez.org Short-Film Review
Let's start 2012 with some tasteful, entertaining jabs at the beauty industry. Do you want "full lips, sparkling eyes, and lashes that never end"? They can be yours with the aid of Adobé's new range of beauty-regime products.
Fotoshop By Adobé is a parody advertisement that was written and directed by US filmmaker and commercial director Jesse Rosen. It's for a fictional range of products for "you, perfected" courtesy of the kind of digital magic that only
Adobe Photoshop can produce.
The parody touches on
a number of controversial subjects, including
Photoshop(ping), the bullshit jargon and promise peddling of the beauty industry, and recent magazine retouching scandals, complete with spot-on voice-over work by Molly Jensen that perfectly emulates the engaging style of a typical TV beauty spot.
The humour is subtle and clever and there are lots of in jokes and throwaway lines to amuse the more observant, many of which will appeal to anyone who's watched too many beauty ads on TV.
This is a high-quality piece of filmmaking, due to Jesse's experience and connections in the industry, and it's reflected in everything form the camerawork to the editing and special effects. If you're interested you can see some footage of how they did it in a very funny behind-the-scenes video (see "Watch Online" below). If you're a film geek you'll find it particularly interesting as they offer a brief tour of the equipment used to shoot the short.
What else can we say? "Pro-pixel intensifying fauxtanical hydro-jargon microbead extract infused with nutritive volumizing technology"? We know you want it!
