Please note that this discount offer is now closed, although if you are still interested in purchasing a Vye notebook please see the contact details at the bottom of the page. You won't be disappointed.
The brainwavez.org shop's not even in an alpha stage yet (it's more like a conceptual zygote) but we have a special offer that's running for the next month. It's primarily for our South Africn readers but if you are elsewhere and willing to pay the shipping costs you can partake in all the fun too. We wouldn't want you to miss out!
While on the road in December and January I worked on various blog posts and brainwavez.org articles using the
Vye mini-v S37-800 mini notebook/tablet PC, one of the many gadgets I was testing, while travelling, for technology articles I write for mainstream South African magazines.

Obviously one of the main selling points is the device's ultra portability and it was a good way to see how well it can integrate into the "office on the move/road warrior" scenario. In fact, if you have a phone with appropriate capabilities you can connect to the Internet on the notebook via Bluetooth Internet sharing or you can connect directly to a wireless hotspot if you happen to be in the vicinity of one.
In terms of my "on the road" testing it held up well and I increasingly started taking it everywhere because it barely makes a dent in my bag in terms of devices and general paraphernalia that I am usually lugging around.
It's been a while since I've been this enamoured with a gadget (testing makes you cynical) and I've been waxing lyrical about it for weeks, as a number of people can confirm.
I've had a lot of communication with the South African distributors of the Vye products in the past few weeks to get answers to queries and help the with setting up of some of the product features (most notably the Internet sharing, which was eventually successful with the help of an
HTC TyTN II smartphone), and we've decided to come up with a deal for readers of brainwavez.org and
my blog.
For the next month you can get a Vye mini-v S37-800 for the special price of R11 500 if you mention my name to the contact-person below. This includes your choice of Windows Vista or Windows XP preinstalled and the shipping costs to an address in South Africa (shipping takes about seven days). If you don't want Windows and would prefer to install your own operating system, such as Ubuntu, you can negotiate a further discount.
The recommended retail price is R12 000 and some stores are selling it for as much as R13 500 so this is a good deal. You have until the end of February 2008 to take advantage.
