ABOUT ME

(A BIT OF A BLOG)

[Quick Jump to missive dated 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, or 2006]

1999

I originally intended to devote a page to elaborating on the mystery that is...well...me, but it's been sitting here for a while now (almost a year) with nothing on it (this is not a reflection of the state of my mind), and it seems that it will be staying this way for a while, since I have absolutely no idea what to put here.

If anything ever comes to mind, this page, I'm sure, will be the first to know.

Anyway, this entire site is devoted to my interests and some of my work so, if you surf around it a bit, it should give you a pretty good idea.
2000
I am a big, big fan of Sophie B. Hawkins (her "unofficial" official site [2002: which is now just her official site] is at The Cream Will Rise, and my fan site, which is in development, is here). I am also a fan of Sarah McLachlan.

I love movies and I spend too much of my free time watching TV. When I have a moment and I'm near an Internet connection, I like to trade on the Hollywood Stock Exchange. If you trade on the exchange and would like to add me to your league, or would like me to add you to my league, email me with your details.

In my free time (on the rare occasions when I actually have any, after all the TV watching), I'm a tracker (MODs). Unfortunately, I don't spend nearly enough time composing anymore. At last count I had composed about 60 MODs.

Recently, I've been playing Final Fantasy VIII and I've been so busy with wip3out, to try and get a top score on the Wipeout Pilots Association scoreboard, that I've been skipping some TV programs. Unbelievable, I know.

I also read and collect books (especially science fiction) and comics, and collect non-sports trading cards.

I think that pretty much covers everything...

...except, I've recently become a reference in a research project on Human Computer Interaction by O. P. Noah, a second year computer science student at UCT. Interesting stuff. (This site may no longer be online.)

And, for even more excitement (for me, anyway)...

My name is going to Mars.
This is not a joke...I don't think.

2001
Ok, I got about halfway through Final Fantasy VIII before I became distracted by wip3out. A few months ago I went back to the game, got a little further, and then got stuck (admittedly, I didn't put that much effort into trying to get myself unstuck - maybe in a few more months). I've also moved on to Wipeout 2097 (yes, I know I'm playing them in the wrong order), but intend getting back to wip3out soon, because I'm determined to achieve top 10 scores.

Meanwhile, I've been promoted at SA Computer Magazine to sub-editor. I'm still doing all the web stuff, though, which has doubled since we launched Singapore Computer Magazine (I designed the site myself - if it's not on my Portfolio | Web Design page yet, email me and demand I put it there (I've been procrastinating a bit, although I prefer to say that I'm so busy managing two magazine sites that I keep forgetting to update my own)).

My HSX trading is also currently almost non-existant. I just surf in there every few months to make sure my portfolio still exists. It's doing ok. In any case, ever since CNN "rearranged" itself and whittled Showbiz Today down from a daily show to a half an hour show in the form of Showbiz This Weekend (well, that's all I ever see, anyway), I'm completely out of the loop when it comes to the American movie circuit (I should probably start reading Variety, but last time I was there all the interesting stuff was password protected.) It's getting frustrating because I keep seeing trailers to movies I've never even heard of at the cinema.

What else? My Cape Town friends keep emigrating to England. I'm starting to think it's something I said...
2002

I realised while typing this that in 2000 I totally forgot to mention the most exciting thing that happened to me - I went to Paris (in spring!) for three days with the editor of SACM to attend an IBM WebSphere press conference and launch. The press event was amazing, as was the entire trip. We had enough free time for me to see quite a bit of Paris, and it was a wonderful experience. Three days, of course, was not enough, and I'm dying to go back there one day.

Okay, on to 2002: so...CNN's Showbiz This Weekend eventually vanished, along with all the other interesting CNN programs I used to watch, such as The Art Club, World Beat, and the travel programme (I've forgotten its name), so now I don't watch CNN much anymore.

My HSX portfolios are looking very healthy. I have passed the $100 million mark in my music portfolio (I have more money that I know what to do with), and should pass $50 million in my movies portfolio by the end of the year.

I've been playing Max Payne and Unreal Tournament quite a bit, but every once in a while I go back to wip3out. I am currently managing top 20 (and in some cases top 10) lap and race times, so I'm very happy with that. Meanwhile, I kick ass in Unreal Tournament. Every once in a while I play against some friends of mine (all guys), and I beat them hands down almost every time. Yay me!

I have just finished reworking this site although the site should look pretty much the same to the casual visitor; basically, lots of changes to the code, and neatening up of areas - things that I've been wanting to do for while. Last year I bought the brainwavez.org domain, and I'm busy brainstorming (if you'll forgive the pun) a web site for it. Hopefully it'll be up and running before the end of the year. If I'm lucky, even sooner.
2003
Nothing much to say, yet. I'm particularly proud of these wip3out scores, although I think I can do better. I've learnt to ignore that scrolling thing on CNN (I call it the ticker). I still don't watch much on CNN, except for The Daily Show Global Edition (a gem in the blah).

Meanwhile, I'm working on some things for brainwavez.org, but time moves so damn fast...
2006
A lot changed in 2004 and 2005, including the fact that I finally left my job after five years. I have since worked for a number of high-profile magazines and have had a great time doing it. I also finally had a decent vacation last year, and went overseas for a few weeks. Last year I also started blogging, which is why this page is no longer updated. However, I'm still quite protective of my little blog, so if you want to read it, you'll have to search for it yourself.
