The InkTober Challenge is a challenge for a reason, though the point is to increase your skills and work out of your comfort zone, not just produce work. However, the project has taken its toll and some South African comics artists have slowly begun to fall out. See who has found the fortitude to keep going, who has just disappeared, and who knows how to bow out gracefully - all in part three of brainwavez.org's 2014 showcase.

Showcase: #inktober 2014, Day 17 To Day 24: The Little Witch, The Last Unicorn, Outer Space, Monsters, Dragons, And More

This is the third post in brainwavez.org's series showcasing the work of the #sacomicsSouth African comics people who have been taking part in The InkTober Initiative. (You can read more about the project in the first post.) This one is a little later than it should have been because it became evident that some people were struggling to keep up with the demands of a time-consuming daily challenge so I wanted to give them a bit more time to post their work.

Sadly, but unexpectedly, a few more people dropped out of the project - some quietly; others, such as Rayaan Cassiem, with an exit note (after, in Rayaan Cassiem's case, producing 18 very impressive pieces). Others, still, continued to post catchups and so I have updated the second post with their work - it's absolutely worth taking a look at the extra artworks. Also have another look at Danelle Malan's mini Dachshunds in that post, which are now available on Teefury T-shirts and merchandise (as Mini Weenies) until 11 November. (If you buy anything via that link both Danelle Malan and brainwavez.org will earn some money, so get shopping - Christmas is coming!)

I also discovered artist Kevin Richter on Twitter (or, rather, he discovered brainwavez.org's Twitter feed) so I have updated the first two posts to reflect all his work, which has been quite charming as many of the illustrations feature a character called The Little Witch and her world. Kevin Richer is, of course, from South Africa but he now lives in England. For a number of years he produced a daily comic strip for The Sun called Shadows but he has also worked on other comics projects, digital-art projects, and books.

Scroll down for days 17 to 24 and look out for the final post in the series, which will be on brainwavez.org soon.

5 Zombie Questions: ZapiroIt's no surprise that imagery of the dead - and undead - has popped up regularly in the work of South African cartoonist Zapiro because there are many appropriate metaphors that can be derived from the depictions but it really came to a head in 2016 with a hard-hitting cartoon of a zombified then president Jacob Zuma stumbling his way through our democracy that he was busy destroying.
