Fans and friends of Mama Taxi's co-creator Deni Brown gathered in Muizenberg last month to raise funds, in the form of an art auction, to help with Brown's medical costs.

South African Comics Art Showcase: Politics, Robots, Doodles, And Superheroes, Plus Stray And Fixed Up Sneak Peeks

Last year I really enjoyed compiling the #inktober posts (part one, part two, part three, part four) that showcased the work of South African comics creators who were taking part in The InkTober Challenge, an annual challenge for artists to push their mental, physical, and creative boundaries by creating one new piece of ink based art a day. I try to highlight selections of new artworks and work in progress in the South African comics news roundups as well (such as this recent post) but there is such an abundance of work that I can't cover everything.

Therefore, this is the first of what I hope will be a semi-regular series of posts that showcases more of the art, work, and work in progress that is being produced by South Africa comics creators - not just the comics work itself but also artworks, experiments, and drawing exercises. It still won't cover everything, and in some cases I'll be setting items aside intentionally to delve into them in more detail at a later stage, but it will give more work more space to be featured on rather than having it just sink quickly into social-media streams, as well as give the news roundups more space for news, which is also increasingly in volume exponentially!

So, here's the first showcase. It's a bit of a bumper selection (from just the past couple of weeks) but it's a great way to get the ball rolling.
