The comics events in Cape Town keep on manifesting. This week there are two to attend - one a launch and the other a fundraiser. Plus, if you're into fonts, design, or comics lettering, Blambot is having a sale, starting today.

This week there are two free comics-related events taking place in Cape Town although both, unfortunately, are happening on the same day (if you drive with determination you can make both) and, for comics creators (and those aspiring to create comics), Blambot is having a site-wide sale on all its paid-for fonts.

Launch Of Crossroad At the Book Lounge
The Trantraal Brothers and Koni Benson, along with Ashley Marais and Ronelda Kamfer, produced a multi-issue comics series titled Crossroads, which is now being published by Isotrope Media (the publishing arm of Blank Books).

The series tells the stories of the struggles of the women of the Crossroads township in Cape Town and the organised resistance, comprising both community members and people from outside the community, that worked to try to fight against the injustices imposed upon the residents of Crossroads by the apartheid government.

At the launch the Trantraal Brothers and Koni Benson will be in conversation with Zapiro.

Where: The Book Lounge, 77 Roeland Street, Cape Town
When: Wednesday, 3 December 2014, 17:30 for 18:00 (until about 19:00)

Deni's Fundraising Art Auction At Alive Café
Alive Café in Muizenberg is hosting a fundraising event for Deni Brown, the writer and co-creator of the cartoon Mama Taxi, which is drawn by Gavin Thomson. Earlier this year Brown was diagnosed with breast cancer and this event will help to generate funds to go towards her medical expenses.

The event is taking the form of an art auction and will feature artworks by prominent local female artists from the worlds of fine arts and comics, including Colleen Ross Brand, kEda Gomes, and Helen Abrahams Blackbeard. There will also be sales, raffles, lucky draws, and giveaways.

Where: Alive Café, 11 Atlantic Road, Muizenberg, Cape Town
When: Wednesday, 3 December 2014, 19:00 to 21:30

Blambot Is Having A Sale
Starting today, 1 December 2014, at 09:00 ET (16:00 GMT+2) font site Blambot will be having a 30% sale. The coupon code will be listed on the web site when the sale begins and can be applied to all the site's pay fonts.

Blambot is, of course, well known for offering both free and paid-for fonts by professional letter Nate Piekos that are particularly suitable for comics lettering, although they can be used for any kind of visual project. Its most recent font is Hundred Watt BB (pictured above), which is "inspired by 80s rock and punk music [...] and is an unconventional dialogue font named after [Nate Piekos's] favourite 100 Watt Marshall half-stack guitar amplifier".

When: Monday, 1 December 2014, from 09:00 ET (16:00 GMT+2) until Monday, 8 December 2014 at 09:00 ET
