There's one day left to help to fund a successful Kickstarter campaign that will be producing a print edition of a critically acclaimed monthly romance-comics magazine that celebrates diversity. The paperback features work by South African comics creator Sally Jane Thompson.

News: Act Fast! You've Got A Day To Get In On The Fresh Romance Kickstarter Campaign

A year ago Rosy Press launched Fresh Romance with the help of a Kickstarter campaign. It is a digital comics-anthology magazine that is produced monthly and features romantic fiction produced by diverse creators for a diverse audience, with stories that "range from sweet to smutty" in a wide variety of genres, including fantasy.

Rosy Press, which is, in essence, one person in Los Angeles, Janelle Asselin, has now partnered with Oni Press to produce a physical anthology that collects all the stories from the past year and includes a new comic, First, Last, And Always, by Kieron Gillen and Christine Norrie that won't be available elsewhere. The paperback will be 224 pages and the Kickstarter edition will feature an exclusive cover by Kevin Wada. Oni Press will then produce a direct market version and the success of the campaign will also indicate to Oni Press that it's viable to invest in Rosy Press projects in the future.

This project is notable for two reasons. First is the support and promotion of diversity (including LGBTI content). The second is Rosy Press's efforts to pay contributors decent rates, as well as let them retain the rights to their work. By supporting the project you support a very honourable publishing environment.

You've Got A Day To Get In On The Fresh Romance Kickstarter CampaignSpecifically of interest to South African comics fans is the fact that the book features a story, The Ruby Equation, that is drawn by Sally Jane Thompson, a South African who now lives and works in the UK as a comics creator.

The Kickstarter campaign has met its funding goal and will be funded tomorrow so you've still got time to join in and help with the stretch goals, the first of which has also already been met. Additional stretch goals help to generate more income for the book's contributors so backers are directly helping the careers of a number of comics professionals.

You can back the project for $15 to get a PDF of the book or $25 to get a physical copy (plus the PDF). There are also higher tier levels that offer art prints and original art, including five pages of original line art by Sally Jane Thompson that were drawn for The Ruby Equation.

Although the intention of this Kickstarter is to raise funds for a print edition the postage is heavy ($25) if you want to get it to South Africa so your options are just to go for the digital version and wait to see if the Oni Press version reaches book stores here or have the book sent to friends in the UK ($20 shipping) or US ($10 shipping) if you really want the Kickstarter-exclusive edition with the Kevin Wada cover.

Either way, by backing you're supporting diversity, South African comics, and independent publishing. You've got one day left so act fast and back the campaign here!
