PlayStation 4 gamers in Sub-Saharan Africa are invited to compete in a free three stage Injustice 2 online tournament being run by ACGL, with a cash prize pool that's worth more than R12 000.

News: Are You The Best Fighter In Sub-Saharan Africa? Prove It In ACGL's Injustice 2 Legendary Series Tournament

ACGL (African Cyber Gaming League), a South African administrator of e-sports and LAN tournaments, and Gamefinity, the South African distributor of PlayStation consoles (it was previously Ster-Kinekor Entertainment), have partnered to offer an online only PlayStation 4 Injustice 2 tournament - the Injustice 2 Legendary Series - that starts next month.

If you've been honing your skills in the game, and have figured out how to manage the unwieldy gear inventory and Mother Box deluge, you've got a number of chances to fight for cash prizes totalling R12 500.

The tournament is open to Sub-Saharan Africa gamers (additional terms and conditions apply to those outside South Africa but they are eligible for prizes) and will be played in three stages.

The first stage comprises four qualifiers taking place online on 8 September 2018, 15 September 2018, 22 September 2018, and 29 September 2018, with check in between 13:00 and 13:50 on each day and matches being assigned from 14:00. Each qualifier has a prize pool of R1000 and each will end with four finalists whose matches will be live streamed on the ACGL YouTube channel the next day, resulting in two finalists who will go on to the next stage. Gamers who don't make it in a qualifier will be allowed to re enter the tournament in the next qualifier.

The qualifiers will be organised as a best-of-three match in a double-elimination bracket (read the double-elimination explanation here). The player who loses a round can pick a new fighter, whereas the player who wins has to continue with his or her chosen fighter. Additionally, there is the option of a double-blind pick, which either gamer can invoke for a match. A double-blind pick means that gamers can pick their fighter in secret.

There are no restrictions on fighter choice - the tournament is specifically being advertised with the Injustice 2 DLC characters, such as Sub-Zero, Starfire, and Atom, to ensure that gamers know that if their main happens to be one of the extra fighters they are welcome to use the character. Hopefully this will make for some interesting match ups during the tournament, especially if players invoke double-blind picks.

The second stage of the tournament is the Legendary League, where the eight gamers from the qualifiers will fight it out between 14 and 21 October 2018, with the matches being live streamed on the Sundays. The Legendary League will knock out four players, leaving four who will move on to the Grand Finale.

The Grand Finale will be taking place on 28 October 2018 and will be live streamed. The gamers will be competing for an R8500 prize pool, which is broken down as follows: R5000 for first place, R2000 for second place, R1000 for third place, and R500 for fourth place.

In order to enter the tournament gamers will have to be registered on the ACGL web site, which is free, and they can enter, also for free, via the tournament page or through the recently released Android app (an iOS app is in development). Gamers will have to own a copy of Injustice 2 and have a PlayStation Network account and an active PlayStation Plus membership, and they will have to have access to a reliable Internet connection in order to compete.

There are a few other rules and settings to be aware of, which you can read on the page that has been set up for the first qualifier on 8 September 2018.

Good luck!
