It's been a while since Cape Town last saw any community gaming events, in which gamers could hang out for an evening to try new games just for fun (rather than participate in a formal e-sports tournament), or AAA game launches, which traditionally were hosted by MWEB at its headquarters, but some familiar organisations have now joined forces to present an evening of talks, games, and pizza later this month.

The MWEB Gaming Gathering (MWEBGG), in partnership with ACGL (African Cyber Gaming League), MSI, Debonairs Pizza, and Reboost Energy Drink, will be taking place on Friday, 22 February 2019, under the theme "Gather, Gab, and Game". The evening will start with the "Gather" part and will include pizza from Debonairs Pizza and drinks from Reboost Energy Drink to get the attendees powered up for the gaming sessions. (There will also be non-energy drink options for gamers who prefer not to drink caffeine.)

After the introductory feast there will be a session of short gaming related talks by Grant Hinds, Gareth Woods, Nick Holden, and Byron Trent (from MSI South Africa) before the "Game" part of the evening commences.

Three AAA games will be showcased on high-spec MSI hardware: BioWare's Anthem, an online multiplayer action role-playing game that releases the day of the gathering; 4A Games' Metro Exodus, a first-person shooter that's a sequel to Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light and which releases a week before the gathering on 15 February 2019; and EA's Battlefield V, the 16th instalment in the Battlefield first-person shooter franchise. It is set during World War II and was released late last year. Gamers will be able to try out the games on MWEB's network, which is fast.

The MWEBGG will commence at 18:00 (don't be late or you'll miss the pizza) and concludes at 23:00. This is a ticketed event, at R80, and 50% of the proceeds will be donated to Hospice, which continues the charitable focus that events such as 2upGamers pioneered a few years ago. The tickets include the aforementioned food and drinks, as well as a swag bag, and they can be bought directly through the ACGL web site. The event will be hosted at MWEB's offices at 100 Fairway Close, Goodwood, Cape Town, and there is free, secure parking on site.
