Launch: Raak Wys Art Movement, Cape Town

Leigh Cupido and a group of mural artists from Cape Town are launching an art collective with the mission to "change the view of mural arts in Cape Town".

Says Cupido: "We want to paint places that need mural arts and graffiti to provide some inspiration or at least just colour on walls instead of gangster tags or grey block buff. So we want to paint ghetto and informal settlements, because we believe they need it the most, but we can't do it alone and without supplies. We are asking YOU, the public to help donate, share posts, buy posters so we have supplies to complete our mission."

Raak Wys is on a mission to:

"1. Beautify Paint and Redress spaces that are used by people for good purposes at no cost to these people;

2. Shift Narratives about ART & Make the Arts more accessible to EVERYONE (we believe that everyone should be granted access to the ARTS and be provided with opportunities to collect Art);

3. Organise Arts Jams & Events in different spaces and Communities, and pay homage to our communities and their Histories and Celebrations."

The launch will include a live painting event on the outside and inside of the venue, a R20 raffle entry to win an artist hamper, a cash bar featuring specials offered by The Drawing Room to help to raise funds, and sales of posters and apparel, some of which is designed by Leigh Cupido, to raise funds for art materials.
