South AfricaExhibition: Artefact By Daniel Clarke, Cape Town
• When: Tuesday, 30 October 2018, 18:00 to 20:00 (opening night); Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 17:00; Saturday, 10:00 to 14:00, First Thursday, 1 November 2018, 09:00 to 21:00; exhibition runs until 24 November
• Where: 99 Loop, 99 Loop Street (on the corner of Church Street), Cape Town, South Africa
• What: Daniel Clarke, who illustrated the graphic novel Kariba, which was finally published earlier this year, is also a fine artist who paints. 99 Loop, a gallery in Cape Town, will be hosting an exhibition of his work, titled Artefact, for a month.

South AfricaConvention: Bunker Con 2018, Cape Town
• When: Friday, 2 November 2018, 09:00 to 19:00; Saturday, 3 November 2018, 09:00 to 19:00; Sunday, 4 November 2018, 09:00 to 17:00
• Where: Food Court Arena, Tyger Valley Centre, corner of Bill Bezuidenhout and Willie van Schoor, Bellville, Cape Town, South Africa
• What: Gaming store Battle Bunker is hosting its inaugural tabletop gaming convention in Tyger Valley Centre in Cape Town. Over three days the event will showcase various tabletop and card games and will also include a geek market and a cosplay masquerade. Comics will be represented by Awali Comics, which publishes Siri Watu: Descendants Of Africa, and Readers Den Comic Shop, which has a branch in the mall and will setting up at the convention with a table featuring graphic novels priced at 40% to 60% off.

South AfricaLecture: Behind The Scenes Of Moosebox, Johannesburg
• When: Thursday, 8 November 2018, 19:00 to 21:00
• Where: The Animation School, 110 Conrad Drive, Craighall Park, Randburg, Johannesburg, South Africa
• What: AnimationXchange, an initiative of Animation SA, is hosting a lecture by Minds Eye Creative, which animated South African comics creator and animator Mike Scott's series Moosebox. The team will be discussing how Moosebox, which is now being screened on NickToons, was put together and a few of the episodes will be screened.

• When: Friday, 9 November 2018, 09:00 to 20:00; Saturday, 10 November 2018, 09:00 to 20:00; Sunday, 11 November 2018, 09:00 to 18:00
• Where: Heroes Of Games & Comics, Shop L14C, Sandton City, 5th Street, Sandton, Johannesburg, South Africa
• What: Heroes Of Games & Comics is opening a new branch in Sandton City in Johannesburg. The opening includes three days of festivities in which the store will be offering deals, discounts, and prizes. Additionally, the team from Comic Con Africa will be at the store on Saturday, 10 November 2018, between 09:00 and 12:00 and to promote the convention and give the first 50 people who arrive wearing 2018 Comic Con Africa merchandise a Comic Con Africa gift bag.

• What: Open Art Cape Town is hosting one of its regular Sketch Meetups at The Drawing Room, a café and art gallery in Observatory. While it's not specifically a South African comics event it is organised by local comics creators and you can always find some of them in attendance.

• What: Zapiro will be in conversation with Mandi Friedman as part of his book tour for his latest annual, Let The Sunshine In, and WTF: Capturing Zuma - A Cartoonist's Tale. Zapiro will be discussing the role of cartoonists in politics and will highlight some of the cartoons from his collection.

• What: Political cartoonist Zapiro will be launching his 23rd collection of cartoons, Let The Sunshine In, at The Bioscope in Maboneng. The launch will include a discussion of some of the political events that have taken place during the course of the past year.

• Where: Readers Den Comic Shop, Shop G19, Stadium On Main, Main Road, Claremont, Cape Town, South Africa
• What: The fourth collected edition of Kwezi comics, by Loyiso Mkize, Clyde Beech, and Mohale Mashigo and featuring issues 10 to 12, will be launching at Readers Den Comic Shop in Claremont, Cape Town. The team will be available to sign the books.

South AfricaConvention: FanCon Cape Town Comic Con 2019
• When: Saturday, 27 April 2019, to Sunday, 28 April 2019
• Where: CTICC (Cape Town International Convention Centre) Hall 8 and 9 (CTICC 2 building), corner of Heerengracht and Rua Bartholomeu Dias, Foreshore, Cape Town, South Africa
• What: The fourth annual FanCon Cape Town Comic Con will be taking place in the new CITCC building. Local and international guests are still to be announced but cosplay events are already being organised and exhibitor-stand applications are already open.

WorldwideFestival: Free Comic Book Day 2019, Worldwide
• When: Saturday, 4 May 2019
• What: During the annual Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) event comics fans can get free comics specially printed for the day from their local comics shop. In South Africa Readers Den Comic Shop in Cape Town and Cosmic Comics in Johannesburg historically celebrate the event with free comics and discounts. In 2019 Free Comic Book Day coincides with Star Wars Day (May The Fourth).

South AfricaConvention: Comic Con Africa 2019, Johannesburg
• When: Saturday, 21 September 2019, to Tuesday, 24 September 2019
• Where: Gallagher Convention Centre, Midrand, Johannesburg, South Africa
• What: Comic Con Africa is expanding to four days, including the Heritage Day public holiday, to accommodate more fans in 2019.

South AfricaExpo: rAge Expo 2019, Johannesburg
• When: Friday, 27 September 2019 to Sunday, 29 October 2018
• Where: The Dome, corner of Olievenhout Avenue and Northumberland Road, North Riding, Johannesburg, South Africa
• What: Historically a few South African comics creators appear in the Artist Alley at rAge, which focuses on video gaming, computer, technology, e-sports, and geek culture.

WorldwideEvent: Inktober 2019, Worldwide
• When: Tuesday, 1 October 2019, to Thursday, 31 October 2019
• What: The annual Inktober art event, which was begun by US artist Jake Parker in 2009, begins, as always, on 1 October. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the initiative. Participants are encouraged to create a drawing or doodle a day, in ink, for the course of the month and post it online on social media.

WorldwideFestival: Halloween ComicFest 2019
• When: Saturday, 26 October 2019
• What: Halloween ComicFest is an annual comics event, similar to Free Comic Book Day, in which comic shops all over the world celebrate Halloween by giving free horror-themed comic books to customers. Historically Readers Den Comic Shop in Cape Town and Cosmic Comics in Johannesburg participate in the event.
