• Where: Temporary Exhibition Galleries, Level 4, ORMS And Tropen Museum, Zeitz MOCAA, Silo District, V&A Waterfront, Cape Town, South Africa
• What: Zeitz MOCAA's group exhibition Still Here Tomorrow To High Five You Yesterday features a mural by Kwezi's Loyiso Mkize.

South AfricaExhibition: Dan Perjovschi, Cape Town
• When: Wednesday, 13 February 2019, from 17:00 (opening night); Friday, 15 February 2019, from 18:00 (public talk); exhibition closes 9 May 2019
• Where: A4 Arts Foundation, 23 Buitenkant Street, Cape Town, South Africa
• What: A solo exhibition, The Black & White Cape Town Report, featuring art by Romanian artist and cartoonist Dan Perjovschi is opening at the A4 Arts Foundation in Cape Town. Perjovschi is known for creating cartoons in the exhibition spaces, either just live for the visitors to see or directly on display surfaces such as walls. For the Cape Town exhibition he has taken over the entire first floor space in the A4 Arts Foundation building and has drawn cartoons with political commentary on all the walls.

South AfricaExhibition: Ed Young's Hero, Cape Town
• When: Wednesday, 13 February 2019, from 17:30 (opening night); Thursday, 14 February 2019, to Saturday, 27 April 2019 18 May 2019 (exhibition extended); open 24 hours a day (there is 24 hour security and the exhibition space is safe)
• Where: Open 24 Hrs, The Harrington, 50 Harrington Street, Cape Town, South Africa
• What: The exhibition Hero features a singular work by artist Ed Young of a very lifelike Superman that's a comment on being a "hero".

WorldwideCrowdfunding: Better Than IRL
• When: Wednesday, 10 April 2019, to roughly (time zone dependent) Friday, 10 May 2019
• What: Better Than IRL is a book collecting stories from people all over the world who forged friendships online in the early days of the Internet. Mohale Mashigo is one of the contributors.

South AfricaSale: Exclusive Books Warehouse Sale, Johannesburg
• When: Saturday, 27 April 2019, to Wednesday, 1 May 2019; 09:00 to 16:00 daily
• Where: Exclusive Books Head Office, Commerce Corner, 31 Commerce Crescent, Kramerville, Johannesburg, South Africa
• What: The Exclusive Books head office in Johannesburg is hosting a five day warehouse sale in which every book will be priced at R35. The stock is replenished each day and no announcements are made as to what will be available but it's possible that there will be graphic novels in the sale.

WorldwideFestival: Free Comic Book Day 2019, Worldwide
• When: Saturday, 4 May 2019
• What: During the annual Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) event comics fans can get free comics specially printed for the day from their local comics shop. In South Africa Readers Den Comic Shop in Cape Town; Cosmic Comics, Smallville Comics, Heroes Of Games & Comics, and Comic Warehouse in Johannesburg; and Project Mayhem Collectibles & Action Figures in Durban will be celebrating the event with free comics and discounts and, at some locations, cosplay events. In 2019 Free Comic Book Day coincides with Star Wars Day (May The Fourth).

• When: Saturday, 4 May 2019, from 10:00 to 15:00
• Where: Readers Den Comic Shop, Shop G19, Stadium On Main, Main Road, Claremont, Cape Town, South Africa
• What: Both branches of Readers Den Comic Shop in Cape Town are celebrating Free Comic Book Day 2019 with a free comic for everyone, as well as special deals for shoppers and regular customers.

South AfricaFestival: Free Comic Book Day 2019, Cosmic Comics, Johannesburg
• When: Saturday, 4 May 2019, from 09:00 to 16:00
• Where: Cosmic Comics, 254 Beyers Naudé Drive (entrance in Acacia Road; parking around the back), Blackheath, Johannesburg, South Africa
• What: Cosmic Comics in Johannesburg is celebrating Free Comic Book Day 2019 with free comics, free "stuff" for early birds, a cosplay competition, and in-store specials. From 09:00 to 12:00 Sean Izaakse will also be at the store doing signings and Greg Nell will be doing commissions.

• What: Smallville Comics in Johannesburg is celebrating Free Comic Book Day 2019 a number of deals for customers, including a goodie bag worth R750 for the first 50 customers who spend over R500.

• When: Friday, 17 May 2018, 10:30 to 21:00; Saturday, 18 May 2018, 10:00 to 19:00; Sunday, 19 May 2018, 10:00 to 14:00
• Where: Various locations along or near the main street (Huguenot Road) in Franschhoek, South Africa
• What: This year's Franschhoek Literary Festival, which is taking place over the weekend of 17 to 19 May 2019 in various locations in Franschhoek in the Western Cape, features South African comics creators Mohale Mashigo (Kwezi) and Alex Latimer, and cartoonist Zapiro on the programme.

South AfricaArt Meetup: Open Art Sketch Meet, Cape Town
• When: Saturday, 18 May 2019, 11:00 to 14:00
• Where: The Drawing Room, 87 Station Road, Observatory, Cape Town, South Africa
• What: Open Art Cape Town is holding one of its regular Sketch Meetups at its usual Saturday morning venue, The Drawing Room, a café and art gallery in Observatory. South AfricaFestival: Kingsmead Book Fair, Johannesburg
• When: Saturday, 25 May 2019, from 08:30 to 18:00
• Where: Kingsmead College, 132 Oxford Road (entrance in Tottenham Avenue), Melrose, Johannesburg
• What: This year's Kingsmead Book Fair features South African comics creator Mohale Mashigo (Kwezi) and cartoonist Zapiro on the programme. There is also a session in the kids' programme that features Supernova magazine, which publishes a magazine for kids that includes comics and art by local comics creators.

South AfricaCharity Auction: Cosmic Comics, Johannesburg
• When: Sunday, 26 May 2019, from 10:00 to 13:00
• Where: Cosmic Comics, 254 Beyers Naudé Drive (entrance in Acacia Road; parking around the back), Blackheath, Johannesburg, South Africa
• What: Cosmic Comics in Johannesburg will be hosting a charity auction. Customers are encouraged to bring items to be auctioned off and a percentage of the sales price will be donated to charity.

South AfricaConvention: ComixEx Joburg
• When: Saturday, 8 June 2019, 10:00 to 18:00, to Sunday, 9 June 2019, 10:00 to 18:00
• Where: Gold Reef City, Johannesburg, South Africa
• What: The event includes "gaming including retro, tournaments, cosplay, ComicEx Idols, comic book and merchandise stalls, laser tag, tech, music, dance zone, VR simulators, competitions, giveaways, and so much more".

• When: Friday, 28 June 2019, to Sunday 30 June 2019
• Where: Sun Arena at Time Square, Menlyn, Pretoria, South Africa
• What: "GeekFest 'Big in Japan' is one of South Africa's Premier Pop-Culture Lifestyle Festival taking place at Sun Arena at Time Square, Menlyn, Pretoria. Attractions include Food Trucks, RoboWars, CosPlay, Craft Stalls, LARP and so so much more!"

South AfricaFestival: Open Book Comics Fest 2019, Cape Town
• When: Wednesday, 4 September 2019 to Sunday, 8 Septmeber 2019
• Where: Various venues near The District 6 Homecoming Centre, Caledon Street, Cape Town, South Africa
• What: The festival comprises workshops, panel discussions, an artists' alley, and more, with most of the events happening on 7 and 8 September 2019.

WorldwideFestival: Batman Day 2019
• When: Saturday, 21 September 2019
• What: DC Comics is celebrating the 80th anniversary of Batman in 2019, with 21 September designated as Batman Day. Readers Den Comic Shop in Cape Town and Cosmic Comics in Johannesburg are likely to participate in the event, which also coincides with Comic Con Africa.

South AfricaConvention: Comic Con Africa 2019, Johannesburg
• When: Saturday, 21 September 2019, to Tuesday, 24 September 2019
• Where: Gallagher Convention Centre, Midrand, Johannesburg, South Africa
• What: Comic Con Africa is expanding to four days, including the Heritage Day public holiday, to accommodate more fans in 2019.

South AfricaExpo: rAge Expo 2019, Johannesburg
• When: Friday, 27 September 2019 to Sunday, 29 September 2019
• Where: The Dome, corner of Olievenhout Avenue and Northumberland Road, North Riding, Johannesburg, South Africa
• What: Historically a few South African comics creators appear in the Artist Alley at rAge, which focuses on video gaming, computer, technology, e-sports, and geek culture.

WorldwideEvent: Inktober 2019, Worldwide
• When: Tuesday, 1 October 2019, to Thursday, 31 October 2019
• What: The annual Inktober art event, which was begun by US artist Jake Parker in 2009, begins, as always, on 1 October. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the initiative. Participants are encouraged to create a drawing or doodle a day, in ink, for the course of the month and post it online on social media.

WorldwideFestival: 24-Hour Comics Day 2019
• When: Saturday, 5 October 2019
• What: The annual 24-Hour Comics Day event challenges comics creators, and aspiring comics creators, to make a comic or zine in 24 hours.

WorldwideFestival: Halloween ComicFest 2019
• When: Saturday, 26 October 2019
• What: Halloween ComicFest is an annual comics event, similar to Free Comic Book Day, in which comic shops all over the world celebrate Halloween by giving free horror-themed comic books to customers. Historically Readers Den Comic Shop in Cape Town and Cosmic Comics in Johannesburg participate in the event.
