• When: Saturday, 27 January 2018, 10:00 to 18:00, and Sunday, 28 January 2018, 10:00 to 18:00
• Where: UCT Sports Centre, Upper Campus, North Entrance Road (off Woolsack Drive), Rondebosch, Cape Town, South Africa
• What: UCON, the "anime, gaming, and general nerd convention" organised by members of UCT's Genshiken society, is back after a hiatus caused by logistical problems and #FeesMustFall protests. Readers Den Comic Shop and Outer Limits will have stands at the convention as will comics creators Bill Masuku (Enigma Comics) and Milo Wildcat Illustrations, and illustrators Gabriella Jardine, Stephen Spinas, and Sasha C.

• What: Open Art Cape Town is hosting one of its regular Sketch Meetups at The Drawing Room, a café and art gallery in Observatory. This is a special event as it's the last time the meetups will be held at The Drawing Room, which has been hosting most of the group's regular sketch sessions for a few years.

• What: Karl Schulschenk, Daniël Hugo, and David Griessel have joined forces with Oneirica, "an exhibition of dreamlike and surreal drawings" at Craft+Graft, a gallery, co-working and event space, and coffee shop in Gardens in Cape Town. The exhibition is opening on Thursday, 1 February 2018, as part of the city's First Thursdays programme for February.

• What: Captain South Africa creator Bill Masuku is part of an international team producing a 200-page comics anthology telling African stories for Africans. There will be two editions, one suitable for children and one with darker material for adults.

• What: The 6th annual GeekFest, which is hosted by The Dark Carnival, is taking place in Johannesburg at Montecasino. This year's theme is "Enchanted Kingdom". Highlights of the weekend event will include a robo wars tournament, LARP (Live Action Roleplaying) demos, a medieval fight club, cosplay competitions (sponsored by the film Deadpool 2), and a geek themed market with over 100 stalls. There will also be a tabletop games showcase, as well as a food court, and, presumably, somewhere within all of this there will be a few comics to be found.
